Animal Discovery is an outdoor zoo that features 20 live animal exhibits on 22 acres adjacent to the Greensboro Science Center’s indoor facilities. The selection of species is intended to show the visitor how the animals’ senses of sight, sound, or smell are used to hunt and capture prey and to interact and communicate.

The project resides on the site of the old zoo, but is now an extension of the existing facility which has grown and developed since its inception in 1957 as a children’s museum. Animals currently exhibited include, Lemurs and Marmosets, Coatimundis, Tamandua, Meerkat, Gibbon, Wallabies, Tigers, Barnyard Animals, and the Giant Tortoise. The GSC has added exhibits to Animal Discovery along the pathways originally established for future habitats.
